All running is good running, but the right shoes are important for your feet and the surface.
What type of running shoe suits me?
Neutral shoes: For a normal gait. Cushioned with some stability.
Pronations shoes: For overpronation (foot rolls inward). Provides extra support.
Lightweight shoes: Minimalist, thin sole, little cushioning. For experienced runners.
Trail shoes: For rough terrain with a rugged sole and durable materials. Less cushioning.
Hybrid shoes: Combines road and trail features, good for mixed surfaces.
Where do you run?
Road: Shoes with good fit and breathability. Not durable for trails.
Trail: Trail shoes with rugged sole, extra protection, and good grip.
Hybrid: For mixed surfaces like road and forest trails.
How far do you run?
Long and frequent runs require durable shoes with good cushioning. More expensive shoes often last longer. It's good to alternate between two pairs.
Gait
Most have a neutral gait. Overpronation (foot tilts inward) requires stability and support.
Good to know
Racing shoes are often lighter but wear out faster. Price isn't everything — choose shoes based on your needs.
Good luck with your training!
